Project Overview
Into the Night is a node-based narrative RPG. I created this game using Ink.
In the game, you play a newbie ninja. Your mission sounded simple enough- spy on two Princesses who are newly arrived to Lord Matsuda's castle. However, things quickly go sideways. You must apply good judgement and your budding skills as a ninja in order to survive!
What's next for Into the Night
I'm enhancing two narrative elements for the game. First, I'll bring out more of the mystery around what's happening and why. Things aren't what they seem between your clan and their client, Lord Matsuda. I'll seed that sense of doubt earlier. Secondly, I'm working on a more robust bark system for the party NPCs. Barks are one of my favorite tools that can be used to bring relationships to life and immerse the player more deeply into the game.
From a development standpoint, I'm porting the game to Unreal Engine 4. While Ink by itself can handle pure story games with ease, with node-based constructs like knots, stitches, threads, diverts, and tunnels, it's not suited to becoming an RPG engine. I discovered that pretty fast after implementing inventory and skill systems. I'm evaluating three tools- Fungus, Ink's Unity integration, and Yarn Spinner- for the next phase of development.
I'm also looking for some great illustrators, animators, and developers to take the gameplay to the next level. Contact me if you're interested in collaborating!
